Local barn goes up in flames

These are images from a barn fire that was reported around 8pm tonight (9-18-14) on Clow Corner Rd going into Dallas Oregon.

Yes, this has happened once before at the same property about 10 years ago.

The cause has not been determined as of yet but with a hay barn there is usually only one cause. That cause is usually Internal Spontaneous Combustion from damp hay being stored.

The heat in the bales of hay builds up over time (1-2 Months) causing the hay to basically smolder until there is enough heat and oxygen. When that happens you then get the fire.

It will be watched and kept very wet for a couple days until it is completely dispersed of all heat and potential for another fire.

It did scare me pretty good.
I saw the glow of the fire just to the North of us over a ridge of trees.

I had to check it out to see what it was because a wildfire right now is not a good thing.

It is so dry here in NW Oregon and fires can grow
big very fast with the conditions like we have had.
